How To Make A Healthy Lifestyle Change

I can not tell you the amount of times I have heard family and friend’s say ” I am starting this new diet” to have only stopped two weeks after starting.

Are you one of those? Do you jump on the Fad Diet train and only make it a week or two?

What you need in an ENTIRE LIFESTYLE CHANGE!

I am not going to lie, Lifestyle changes are hard, Giving up on certain things and learning to live without them is so much easier said then done. There are ways you can shift to a healthy lifestyle change and ditch that fad diet train for good. Here are a couple tips from my arsenal:

Number 1 – Find an exercise program that you love.

There are so many different forms of exercise in the world, My favorite is weight lifting, That because i enjoy the challenge of lifting heavy and the immediate rush of being able to met a new weight. But weighjt lifing is not the only one out there.

Example:

  • Yoga
  • Palates
  • Boxing
  • CrossFit
  • Running
  • Zumba
  • swimming
  • bicycling

Sit down and figure out what it is really like doing and do the dang thing! Once you get it in your mind that you want this only then will you get the drive! If you focus on results you will never change, If you focus on change you will see results.

Exercising everyday also is not realistic (unless you are a gym junkie), You will find yourself getting burnt out and to be honest your body needs to to recovery.

Allows time for recovery , rest is essential for muscle growth. Exercise creates microscopic tears in your muscle tissue. But during rest, cells called fibroblasts repair it. This helps the tissue heal and grow, resulting in stronger muscles.

Number #2 Food Intake

Stop doing these fad diets, To be successful you have to actually eat and I don’t mean restricting yourself to 1200 calories, that is how much 3yr olds to eat, not a grown adult.

Be mindful of what you eat of course we all know greasy fast foods are no good.

Truth is our bodies need Carbs, Healthy Fats, Veggies, Protein and yes the occasional sweet treat. A true Life style change is learning to eat the right foods and balancing it with the occasional treats so that you stay on track and don’t Bing eat then plateau.

Remember the 80/20 Rule :

How It Works

To follow the 80/20 rule, you eat a “clean” diet 80% of the time and allow yourself to enjoy a few indulgences 20% of the time. For many people, this means they eat well during the week and relax a bit on the weekend.

The plan allows you to enjoy indulgences on a regular basis without making you feel like you are “cheating” on your diet. This can be a balanced approach to a healthy diet and lifestyle for many people.

What to Eat

Compliant Foods

  • Whole grains
  • Fruits and vegetables
  • Lean proteins
  • Low-fat dairy products

Non-Compliant Foods

  • Saturated fats (in excess)
  • Refined carbohydrates and sugar (in excess)
  • Alcohol (in excess)
  • Processed foods (in excess)

3rd Stop Beating Yourself Up

Don’t be too hard on yourself if it doesn’t go as planned, keep trying until you get it.

It takes time to to change your lifestyle, start by accomplishing one thing then go to the next. Remember it took years for you to create the lifestyle you are living know so changing it all over will not happen over night.

Remember this is a journey, keep track of it, document it to see how far you have come, take progress photo’s. I know you may feel odd taking mirror selfies of yourself but it helps a lot in seeing the results, and lastly take accountability for it all.

Final note :

  • SET GOALS
  • FIND MOTIVATION
  • BE PATIENT WITH YOURSELF
  • AND GO AFTER IT WITH ALL YOUR HEART
